Innovations”: An Adaptive Continuum of Cancer Care

Ajit Singh, president of the Oncology Care Systems Group of Siemens Medical Solutions, spoke on “Disruptive Technologies and Oncology Care” at a public event at CC on April 26. (Disruptive technologies lower cost and change treatment methods, although initial performance drops.)

Singh believes the U.S. healthcare system needs a disruptive innovation in its structure. Most care is focused on treating rather than preventing diseases, lowering successful treatment rates for diseases like cancer.

“The ability to look at a continuum of care will be the biggest innovative disruption of all,” Singh said, citing cancer therapy that adapts to the individual case as treatment progresses. Adaptive treatment for cervical cancer, for example, can raise the five-year survival rate from 5 percent to 50 percent. Dr. Singh’s visit was the first program in CC’s new Innovative Minds series.
