Mission and Vision

"At Colorado College our goal is to provide the finest liberal arts education in the country. Drawing upon the adventurous spirit of the Rocky Mountain West, we challenge students, one course at a time, to develop those habits of intellect and imagination that will prepare them for learning and leadership throughout their lives."

Most college mission statements are waffling behemoths of platitudes, taking far too much to say too little.  Here at Colorado College, our mission statement does something a little different. Not only is it plainly written and easy to understand, but it also conveys everything you need to know about life at CC in two well-constructed sentences. Let’s break it down.

“...our goal is to provide the finest liberal arts education in the country...”

Much like Colorado College itself, our mission statement goes big from the start. We don’t do anything halfway here at CC, and the mission statement goes right along with that belief. The finest liberal arts education in the country is a huge title to aspire towards, but here at CC we believe that our unique Block Plan system provides students with the greatest method of learning possible. It offers in-depth study of a subject, oftentimes covering far more material than most semester-based programs, at demanding and inspiring levels.

“...adventurous spirit of the Rocky Mountain West...”

Colorado College offers unparalleled access to the outdoors, and students here at CC are no strangers to that adventurous spirit which seems to inhabit the very air of the Rocky Mountain West. With access to the Rocky Mountain National Park, world-class skiing, and the cultural diversity of the American Southwest, CC students have an abundance of opportunities to explore and endeavor away from the rigors of the classroom.

“...develop those habits of intellect and imagination...”

The academic environment in which Colorado College operates is something to be cherished. The nature of the Block Plan enables students to truly find and pursue their passions, delving deep into the realms of everything from drama to astrophysics. Here at Colorado College we believe in thinking “outside the Block” as well, and so a huge number of our classes take time elsewhere – from our Baca campus to simply reading on the quad. Everything here is done with an approach of individuality, allowing students and professors alike to truly stamp themselves on their college experience.

“...learning and leadership throughout their lives...”

Colorado College prides itself not solely upon its academic rigors and standards, but also on the traits it seeks to bring out in its students. We encourage and facilitate numerous opportunities for student volunteer work, such as Break Out trips, as well as offering students chances to take leadership positions both on campus and within the local Colorado Springs community. Leadership is not simply something we look upon favorably; it is something we look to achieve in everything we do here at CC. Furthermore, the leadership skills cultivated here at CC will allow students to become leaders in whichever career they pursue following their years at Colorado College.
