Geographic Data and Maps at Colorado College

By Where Data Reside

Data on GIS Server

  • Contact Matt Gottfried @ 719-389-6130 or Matt.Gottfried@ColoradoCollege.edu, if you have troubles finding or accessing data on the GIS server.
  • Some of the data are subject to restrictions in data distribution and/or data usage. Please contact Matt Gottfried if you want to redistribute the data or use the data for non-education/research purpose.
  • You should ALWAYS make a copy of the data you want to use to your user folder (how to access my user folder?). Your GIS projects should NEVER reference to data stored at this central GIS data depository (Why?).

GIS data is grouped by geographic regions at root level:

Data are grouped by regions based on the geographic extent covered by the data. Therefore, you may find data for the state of Colorado in folders USA_States", "USA", and "World" .

Data from national mapping products, e.g., USGS DEM, USGS DRG, NAIP, are split up by states and placed in USA_States folder.

Currently, there are 14 regions. Additional regions may be added when data become available. Note that data for Colorado College and surrounding area are placed in folder "ColoradoCollege".

Africa North_America
Asia South_America
Australia USA
Canada USA Cities
Europe USA States
Germany World
Mexico ColoradoCollege

Root level folders with names beginning with _ do not store GIS data.

For each region, data is organized by subjects:

For example, Biology, Boundary, Census, Environment, Hydrology, Imagery, Index (USGS 24k quads, UTM zones, etc.), Transportation.
