Dear Potential Host:
Thank you for your interest in the Adopt-A-Student Program! The Student/Alumni Association (S/AA) and the Colorado College Alumni Club want to help ease the transition into the Colorado College and Colorado Springs communities for our incoming new students with the Adopt-A-Student program. This special program matches interested first-year students with local alumni, CC staff, and friends of the college who serve as sponsor hosts and help introduce the students to the campus and local community.
WHAT is this program?
While the students are here, they may want an occasional change of scenery and a chance to be off campus in the larger Colorado Springs community. This program, co-sponsored by the Student/Alumni Association and the Colorado College Alumni Club, matches students with hosts according to their common interests. Many students enjoy ongoing relationships with their adopted hosts well beyond their first year.
WHO will be my student(s)?
Our students reflect a wide range of individuals from across the United States and abroad. They are interested in making the transition to college life as smooth as possible with the help of a local family. You are matched with a student based on your answers to the online Adopt-A-Student form (available to fill out in Spring 2009.
WHEN will I be matched to my student(s)?
The committee begins the matching process early in July. After the matching, you will be sent information about your adopted student(s) and we hope to take that opportunity to make contact with them before they arrive on campus.
WHAT does the program involve?
To help you get acquainted with your student(s) there will be a few planned activities during the first semester they are on campus. Beyond these activities, what you do is up to you and your student - it can be as much or as little as you like!
WHERE will I meet my student(s)?
At the end of August the new students will arrive on campus. During their New Student Orientation you will be invited to attend a picnic dinner to pick up your host packet, and so you can meet your student if you have not already done so. There will also be an Adopt-A-Student holiday party in December for students and their hosts.
HOW do I sign up?
Please fill out the online Adopt-A-Student form no later than June 27, 2008. The Alumni Office will be sending you information about your students shortly.
