Please join us for a special afternoon with CC alumnus
and photographer Stephen Trimble '72
Saturday Oct. 4, 2008
2 - 4:30 p.m.
The Tattered Cover - LoDo location
1628 16th Street
Denver, CO 80202
Steve will present his new book "Bargaining for Eden"
at 2 p.m., followed by a more indepth examination of the issues
at 3:15 p.m. -- exclusively for Colorado College alumni.
Bargaining
for Eden explores the tension between community and development
in what Stephen Trimble terms “the Middle-Aged West.”
Trimble looks for common ground as open space shrinks in 21st Century
America. In this talk, he tells provocative stories, shows slides,
and reads excerpts from the text--all aimed at creating conversation,
our only hope for the future.
Salt
Lake City writer and photographer Stephen Trimble has published
twenty-two books. His bedrock focus is the land—western wildlands
and natural history. The breadth of awards earned by his books mirrors
the wide embrace of his work: the Sierra Club's Ansel Adams Award
for photography and conservation; The National Cowboy Museum’s
Western Heritage “Wrangler” Award; and a Doctor of Humane
Letters from his alma mater, Colorado College, honoring his efforts
to increase our understanding of Western landscapes and peoples
and his choice to remain a stubborn generalist. This fall, Trimble
will be a Wallace Stegner Fellow at the University of Utah’s
Tanner Humanities Center.
