LLOYD E. WORNER AWARD RECIPIENT 2009

GailBundy '62Gail Bundy '62

Gail Bundy didn’t choose Colorado College. It chose him. After a stint in the Marine Corps, Gail was offered a full grant for football, including free lodging and a job in the off-season. He took the offer and soon was playing football and intramural hockey at CC and following the CC Tiger hockey team as an avid fan and member of the “Rink Rats.” One of his fondest memories was when the Zeta hockey team beat the faculty to win the winter carnival championship at the old Broadmoor Ice Arena.

Because of his military service Gail was older than many of his classmates, and he began studying toward a degree in business and economics.

Gail remained a business major and after graduation got his start in the insurance industry as a field supervisor for The Travelers in Wyoming and northern Colorado.

Gail says his studies at CC helped him in his career and in his life. “The varied courses of my liberal education were diverse enough to whet my interest in numerous topics, and provided a well-rounded background which allowed me success in my business career.” After CC, Gail remained active as a college volunteer, particularly with class reunions and as an event organizer in the Albuquerque area. He was later elected as an alumni trustee and served six years on the Board of Trustees.

Today, Gail manages the activities of 17 employees in two locations of First Santa Fe Insurance Services. He’s also the chairman of the board of the Felix River Ranch, a sweeping 150,000-acre ranch with game parks and shooting preserves, 45 miles northwest of Artesia, N.M. He has been active with the Albuquerque Museum Foundation Board and chaired the Notable New Mexican event this year that honored artist Glenna Maxey Goodacre ’61.

He and his wife, Jeannine Daniels Bundy, have five children (including Deborah Kay Bundy Kenny ’86) and eight grandchildren.
