Professor Dennis Showalter
Dennis Showalter is arguably one of the top military historians in the country
today. A guest lecturer at West Point, the Air Force Academy and the Marine
Corps University, Dennis is also past president of the Society for Military
History. He was interviewed in “Hitler’s Lost Plan,” a
documentary that premiered on the History Channel in December.
At CC since 1969, Dennis has won several awards, most recently the 2005
Samuel Eliot Morison Prize by the Society for Military History.
“As a researcher, mentor, critic and leader of the Society for Military
History, Dennis Showalter has influenced an entire generation of military
historians,” the society wrote. “His central role in mentoring
young scholars is reflected in the astonishing number of acknowledgments
pages where his name can be found.”
