Ronald V. Rubin '73

In 1994, when Ron Rubin was presented with an Alumni Spirit Award from the Center for Community Service, he was introduced as “a remarkable man, a funny man, a good man … a wonderful example of what we hope all Colorado College alumni will be.”

Described by CC staff members as “a one-of-a-kind volunteer,” Ron has devoted enormous time, energy, and wisdom to his alma mater. He has worked on all of his class reunion committees, planned alumni events, and served as an alumni trustee. Ron has also pitched in on countless campus committees, helped recruit students, and offered career counseling. He has held several leadership positions in the Colorado College Alumni Club and on the National Alumni Council, including president. A ringleader in raising funds, he is also credited with improving alumni support of the college.

In short, Ron Rubin’s dedication, passion, and sense of humor have been an inspiration to the CC community. His willingness to show up almost any time, anywhere, to support CC — sometimes even as the Tiger mascot — has made him a model alumnus.

Ron’s career experiences have given him a fiscal keenness, which he has shared generously with the college over the years. In the securities and investment business in Colorado Springs since 1980, he has worked for Merrill Lynch, Paine Webber, and The New England Group (Sorrick Associates). He currently serves as vice president at Wells Fargo Investment Services.

In the Colorado Springs community, he has raised funds for Junior Achievement, the YMCA, the Heart Association, the Fine Arts Center, the Diabetes Foundation, the Salvation Army, United Jewish Appeal, and Polio Plus. He was one of the original volunteers for Green Springs, the organization that plants trees and shrubs around the city. He has also served on the board of the Nutritional Camp School Foundation, established by Julie Penrose to help children in need. A member of the downtown Rotary Club, he received its “Outstanding Rotarian” award in 1989.

He and his wife, Karen, and children, Gillian and Daniel, are Tiger Pride members and hockey season ticket holders. Ron’s other interests — from anthropological ecology to candle making — illustrate his unabated curiosity.

As Don Wilson, vice president for alumni, development and college relations, said when Ron’s term ended as Alumni Association Board president, “Your infectious enthusiasm and sound counsel will be long remembered”.
