Eva Hodges
Watt, a member of the class of ’43, represents a model of the kind of
graduate we all hope to be.
While covering the world, state and city and interviewing newsmakers and opinion makers from Eleanor Roosevelt , Bob Hope, Clark Gable and Mamie Eisenhower to “ordinary” citizens who were the victims of catastrophes, Eva received numerous journalism and community awards. Then, after traveling the world to bring Denver the news from statesmen, fashion runways, opera galas and more, Eva settled into a new career as a free-lance writer. After her long and successful career as a journalist with the El Paso Times and the Denver Post, Eva said goodbye to interviews with the newsmakers and trend setters of the world to give back to her alma mater. Eva found many ways to be of service to the college. She has a record of creative and effective event planning in the Denver area. As a very active Denver CC Metro club looked for ways to create events for alumni of the “forties,” Eva pitched in to advise, plan and host numerous events. In doing so, she helped classmates and alumni of all ages stay in touch with one another and the College. Eva has used her extensive knowledge of the Denver community and its activities to find creative ways for alumni of her era to gather and keep CC in their lives. Making her country club available for events, using her lifelong connections, even taking reservations, Eva has always been willing to help. Once she became a member of the 50 Year Club, she was pressed into service again as a member of the group’s executive board, again helping to plan special events for her contemporaries. Eva continues to offer energy and enthusiasm to that group, keeping the bonds that tie friends and the college together. Sending son Rob to CC strengthened her legacy. And, as with all great volunteers, Eva makes her annual financial commitment to the college, proving that the donation of love and time is made even stronger by sustained financial support. A fulfilling career, a long family legacy beginning with her parents and including her son, Eva returned “home” to CC. All can use her commitment as a model. |
