Dr. Donald E. Cook '52

Dr. Donald Cook ’52 was recognized by his peers for his outstanding efforts to ensure the health of America’s children when he was elected president of the American Academy of Pediatrics last year.

A longtime Greeley pediatrician, Dr. Cook helped establish the Monfort Children’s Clinic to provide health care to children without health insurance. And, even after his formal retirement, Dr. Cook continues to volunteer his services at the clinic.

Recognition by his peers and his work on behalf of children’s health care are only the most recent of Dr. Cook’s contributions to our children. Dr. Cook fought for school bus safety as the co-founder of Coloradoans for Seat Belts on School Buses; served on an interagency child abuse team and the Child Abuse Coalition; and has been part of the Advisory Committee on Teenage Pregnancy. Dr. Cook has served on countless boards, including the Weld County District VI Board of Education. His work to fight for issues that surround children’s health never ceases. A partner in Greeley’s Sports Medicine Clinic & Medical Group, he served as a volunteer high school team physician.

His commitment to children’s health led him to work to raise millions of dollars for his clinic. His efforts and resulting successes have inspired a nation of physicians.

The state of Colorado recognized his contributions by awarding him the Senate of the Colorado Legislature Commendation for Outstanding Service.

Physician, community activist and leader, effective fundraiser and volunteer for CC, Dr. Cook also demonstrated the true spirit of the liberal arts, playing first violin for the Greeley Philharmonic for many years!

Some might call him a specialist in pediatrics, others a community leader. We proudly call him a CC Tiger.
