LLOYD E. WORNER AWARD RECIPIENT 1999

Henry D. "Hank" Worley '76

Henry D. "Hank" Worley is in his third decade of making a difference at Colorado College. As a student, he majored in political science and was involved in the early years of MEChA, the student organization which focuses on issues of concern to Hispanic students. Hank was committed to the building of a diverse community at the College. He was active in varsity and intramural sports and also participated in the study abroad program.

His full involvement in the life of the College did not end with graduation. While in law school, Hank stayed in touch with others from CC by participating in metro activities. After returning to Colorado Springs to practice law, he volunteered with the local alumni group, planning dozens of events to bring alumni together and served on the board as member, secretary and co-chair. Hank's exceptional commitment was recognized by the Alumni Association when it elected him to two terms on the National Alumni Council. He chaired almost every NAC committee at one time or another over eight years. As a volunteer fund raiser, Hank played an important role in the Alumni Participation Challenge effort. Hank's commitment to diversity continues with his constant and generous support of several scholarship funds designed to help minority students.

In addition, Hank has been called upon by the College to serve as the alumni representative on the All College Committee on Socially Responsible Investing, adding an important voice in the decision making for the College. As a member of the All College Committee to the College was again acknowledged with his nomination to stand for election for Alumni Trustee. Only a handful of alumni are selected for this honor.

Hank represents the best in our alumni as he displays his continuing commitment to the larger world. In his law practice that focuses on water-related topics, he wrote a booklet as a guide for citizen activists interested in water rights issues. He has served as an officer for the Palmer Foundation, raised funds for the YMCA and has been a member of the Adoptive Parents' Council for Chinese Children Adoption International, all while devoting time and love to his wife and children.

Hank is a model for all who want to know what it means to be an active member of a community.
