LLOYD E. WORNER AWARD RECIPIENT 1998

A. Daniel Sheffield, Jr. '69

After graduating CC in 1969 and serving two years in the Army, Dan went on to the University of Minnesota Law School and earned his juris doctorate in 1974. while building and maintaining a successful professional career, Dan has found the time to be an active supporter of Colorado College. Volunteers are the lifeblood of the college alumni program, and Dan should be seen as an example of what a large difference one person can make in the life of the College. While living in Phoenix, Dan was known to people at the college as "Mr. Phoenix." He did everything, serving as an alumni admissions representative to recruit the best and brightest to come to CC, and chairing the Phoenix Alumni Metro Group planning numerous events. He served as a class agent, encouraging classmates to give their important financial support to the College. He served on the National Alumni Council, chaired the 1993 Alumni Leadership Forum and co-chaired the Development committee that worked successfully to gain increased participation by alumni in the annual fund. He also co-chaired the important NAC Nominations and Awards committee for four years. Since moving to Colorado Springs, Dan has served on numerous search committees for the College, and attended interviews with presidential candidates to provide alumni input. Dan offers professional advice to the development office through the Barnes Society and is once again volunteering for the ongoing Campaign for Colorado College. He often returns to campus to present insurance and tax seminars for alumni, parents, and friends of CC.

Dan never says no to Colorado College. When we need his expertise, his wisdom, his effort, and his good will, he is there. To listen to Dan talk about the values he received from the outstanding faculty at CC is a reminder to us all of what we have gained from the College.

Dan Sheffield brings honor to Colorado College. For this reason, we are grateful for the opportunity to honor him.
