LLOYD E. WORNER AWARD RECIPIENT 1998

Robert H. Redwine '71

Rob has always been enthusiastic - for personal and professional challenges. After graduating form CC in 1971, in the great CC tradition, he worked as a professional ski instructor in Aspen, Colorado, for two years before joining "the real world." He has participated in many triathlons and climbed many of Colorado's peaks, as well as several in the Tetons. In January 1996 he climbed Mt. Aconcagua in Argentina, which at 22,934 feet is the highest mountain in the Western and Southern Hemispheres.

Rob entered the insurance field and joined the Equitable companies in 1976 - and has remained with them ever since. his untiring efforts have led to honors such as Equitable regional Honor Agent in 1992, Million Dollar Round Table membership every year since 1976, serving as a member and current president of Equitable's CLU/ChFC Board of Trustees, and serving as a member and current local chapter president of the National Association of Life Underwriters.

Just as dedicated to his community, Rob serves or has served on the boards of the Pueblo Economic Development Committee, the Pueblo Community College Foundation, the YMCA, the Centennial High School Foundation, the Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center, Norwest Bank, and the Broadway Theater League.

But his enthusiastic service to Colorado College is why rob is being honored here today. The same focused energy that Rob applies to adventure, business and community is also applied to Colorado College. He has organized and hosted alumni events in Pueblo, including the Pueblo kickoff for the campaign of the mid-80's. He has coordinated numerous events for groups of alumni and incoming students, and recruited students for the College. As a member of the National Alumni Council, the governing board of the Alumni Association, he served as chairman of the Alumni Leadership Forum in 1986 and then as president of the Council from 1987 to 1989. Under his leadership, the National Alumni Council created the Traveling College, new metro groups, conducted an extensive review of homecoming and reunions, fostered increased communications, and experienced considerable growth in the number of career volunteers. Also while president, and for the following two years, Rob served as an ex-officio member of CC's Board of Trustees. From 1988 to 1993, he acted as class agent for the Class of 1971, and in 1989 he was chosen to serve on the Development Leadership Committee of the board. Since 1990, he has served on the Barnes Society Advisory Committee, a group of professionals in the field of planned giving who volunteer their time and expertise as advisors for the College. he has also served on the All-College Committee on Selective Divestment. Rob is a premier example of alumni commitment to, and concern and respect for, the liberal arts tradition.
