| LLOYD E. WORNER AWARD RECIPIENT
1993 |
Billie Jean Andrews Fitzgerald '57
It is Billie Jean Fitzgerald's deep-rooted belief in the importance of
education that drives her professional and volunteer efforts, particularly
on behalf of Colorado College. A career fundraiser in higher education
and a former teacher, Billie Jean has a profound understanding of the
need for adequate and secure resources to ensure continual educational
quality.
After graduating from Colorado College, Billie Jean served as a class
agent. In the late seventies, she played an integral part in the reorganization
of the Denver Alumni Club, which currently thrives as a vital alumni group.
She continued to give her time and energy in her work with the Centennial
Challenge Advisory Group, the Reunion Giving Committee, the National Alumni
Council Nominating Awards Committee (1984-1986), and the Friends of Lloyd
E. Worner Committee. She and her husband, Tom '57, chaired Lew Worner's
Denver retirement party.
Billie Jean was recently called upon to serve on a new Campaign Strategy
Advisory Committee. Through all of these activities she had demonstrated
her dedication to the College.
Billie Jean's loyalty also has been evident in her self-initiated recruitment
for the College. She has recommended several students for admission, and
her own sons, Timothy Fitzgerald '85 and David Fitzgerald '88, attended
CC. Through their legacies, Billie Jean and husband Thomas Acton Fitzgerald
'57, added a new dimension to their College experience by returning to
campus to participate in events.
Heralding Colorado College's ability to serve a diverse student body,
its firm commitment to the liberal arts and sciences, and its excellent
faculty, Billie Jean is a positive advocate for this institution and a
force for ensuring its continued growth and strength.
