LLOYD E. WORNER AWARD RECIPIENT 1991

Malcolm P. Richards '40

Summer jobs while a student at Colorado College led Malcolm Richards to a career in railroading, where his considerable ability eventually took him to the vice president's chair at Penn Central. through the many moves, he continued to stay involved with Colorado College, organizing alumni events all over the country with his wife, Lois.

Following a two-year assignment in the 1960's as chair of the Annual fund, Mal was elected by fellow alumni to serve a six-year term as Alumni Trustee. In the early 1970's Mal took on the task of chairing the President's council.

After his retirement to Colorado, Mal's volunteer work on behalf of the College continued to increase. Since 1976, Mal has helped plan reunions for the Class of 1940 and has served on the Friend of the Library Board. during the Colorado College Campaign he was co-chair of the Colorado Springs Campaign committee and a member of the Friends of Lew Worner Committee, helping to secure funds for the College's future. Mal became a productive member of his class' 50th Reunion Giving committee, encouraging classmates to join him in supporting the College financially.

His long experience with the work of the Alumni Association brought him an appointment to the important Nominating committee of the National Alumni Council.

Along with Lois, Mal helped raise five children, three Colorado College graduates among them. In "retirement" he was a working helper in Lois' bookstore. The Richards team gave time and effort not only to the Colorado College Library, but to local alumni on the Lunch Bunch committee and Aficionados.

In addition to work on behalf of Colorado College, Malcolm has been a Board member for Goodwill Industries in Colorado Springs for eleven years, serving as chairman one of those years. He is currently serving on the Cheyenne Village Board.

We thank Malcolm Richards for his years of devoted service to Colorado College.
