Lois Hicks Richards '42
While attending Colorado College on Alice Bemis Taylor scholarship, Lois
Hicks Richards began an association with Colorado College that would last
a lifetime. After marrying Malcolm richards, she began a life that would
take her all over the country but never far from Colorado College.
Lois and her husband, Malcolm, raised five children, sending three of them
to Colorado College. Together they organized alumni activities in New York
city and Philadelphia. when Lois and Mal returned to Colorado Springs in
mid-1970's, Lois heightened her involvement with her alma mater, planning
reunions and joining other Colorado college support groups.
Lois's love for books not only led her to open her own bookstore in Westcliffe,
but found her on the Board of the Friends of colorado College Library, running
the popular book sale for five years. She currently sits on the Selection
Committee for the Curator of Special Collections at the Colorado College
Library. Lois joined Aficionados, the active support group of the Colorado
College Southwest Studies program, worked on the Colorado Springs alumni
club's "Lunch Bunch" committee, planning educational programs
for other Colorado College alumni, and was invited to join the Tutt Alumni
House Committee, assisting the College in the never-completed job of decorating
and acquiring furnishings for the Alumni House.
Along with Malcolm, Lois worked to complete the funding for the Worner Campus
Center as a member of the Friends of Lew Worner Committee.
In addition to her work on behalf of the College, Lois is a prime example
of a person devoted to community service. she is involved with her sorority
alumni association, is a working member of the Colorado Springs Horticultural
Arts Society, running the house plant sale for a number of years, is treasurer
for the Cheyenne Village Supporters and a past member of the Custer County
Library Board. She is currently a volunteer in the archives at the Colorado
Springs Pioneer Museum.
Her family, her community, and her alma mater are all fortunate to have
had Lois Hicks Richards working on their behalf.
