Gary A. Knight '67
During Gary Knight's years as an alumni volunteer, important things have
happened. It was Gary's vision and energy that revitalized the Denver
Alumni Club to make it one of the most active, exciting clubs for alumni
in the country.
His leadership skills were obvious and he was recruited to serve on the
National Alumni Council, culminating in two years as president. During
six years on the NAC, Gary was responsible for: the creation of an Alumni
Volunteer Forum that has become a model for volunteer training programs;
the creation of an honorary degree program designed to recognize outstanding
alumni; an alumni career referral program, now in place nationwide, and
the inclusion of an existing alumni recruiting program into the overall
alumni program; an expansion of the volunteer base, including the formation
of organized alumni clubs from coast to coast; and the creation of the
Benezet and Worner Awards program, now in its fifth year.
In 1986 Gary offered his valuable support in the effort to establish an
alumni house. The Tutt Alumni House is one visible proof of Gary's efforts.
His organizational and motivational skills provided a new shot of energy
that led to the creation of much of what you see in operation today in
the Alumni Association. while serving as president, Gary sat on the college
Board of Trustees where he was highly regarded for his insights and out
to do. His work was not over when his term ended. The Colorado College
Campaign Committee called upon Gary and his knowledge of alumni to join
in the important work of the Campaign by serving as chair of the Annual
Fund for two years. Gary's creative ideas and enormous energy provided
the Annual fund program with vital leadership. Thereafter he sat on the
Campaign Executive Committee, where his input was greatly valued.
Sometimes we feel that Gary Knight gives all his time to Colorado College.
He just accomplishes more than most people. While serving as a volunteer,
Gary has managed a demanding career as a medical research administrator,
served on various boards and enjoyed a full family life with his wife,
Phyllis, and their two sons.
