Alumni / Parent / Community Half-Block
January 8-18, 2007
Welcome to Colorado College's exciting "Half-Block" Program
which allows parents, alumni, and friends
to experience the intellectual intensity of CC. This continued learning
adventure first began in 2004, and now
each January the college offers two different compelling course options,
taught on campus by some of CC’s
most outstanding faculty. These are serious Half-Block courses with
papers and assignments.

Two Courses in 2007, Geology and Anthropology.

"Rock(s) of Ages"
To commemorate the bicentennial of Zebulon Pike's 1806 Expedition through
Colorado,
this Half-Block geology course will dig deep into the history of the
Pikes Peak region.
Professor
Henry Fricke will tell us about those red rocks in Garden
of the Gods,
and take us on an overnight field trip to Colorado College’s beautiful
Baca campus near Crestone.
(Note: Please add $75 to the course fee to cover transportation, lodging
and food for the field trip).

"The Melting Pot"
Modeled after Professor
Mario Montano’s popular Anthropology of Food course,
this Half-Block class will explore food concepts, analytical methods
and the food habits
of different ethnic groups. In addition, Professor Montano will discuss
the immigrant influences
on so-called American food, as well as how our language is influenced
by
idiomatic phrases pertaining to food ("living high on the hog"
for example).
Favorite family recipes will be prepared, too.
