Colorado College introduced an exciting new "Half-Block
Program 2004" that allowed parents, alumni, and friends to
experience the intellectual intensity of CC.
The college offered two compelling courses, taught on campus
Jan. 5-15, 2004, by some of the college’s most outstanding
faculty. These were serious half-block courses with papers and
assignments.

The
Southwest: Living on Borders
Professor
Doug Monroy (History)
What does it mean to live "on the border" between nations,
between languages and cultures? What encounters might borders
make possible? Within what narratives — of peoples and of
nations — are borders and frontiers embedded? This class
will investigate various notions of "the border," "borders,"
and their various "crossings."
The
Dalai Lama of Tibet:
Philosopher, Statesman, Monk, and What Else?
Professor
David Gardiner (Religion)
In this course students will look closely at various facets of
this complex "gem" of a human being. Tenzin Gyatso,
His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, is: unquestionably modern, yet
represents brilliantly an ancient tradition; exceedingly cheerful,
yet a tough political negotiator; deeply Buddhist, yet a strong
advocate of religious pluralism and inter-religious dialogue;
firm in faith, yet keenly interested in scientific knowledge;
highly analytical as a philosopher and sharp as a debater, yet
remarkably unassuming, warm and friendly with almost everyone.
