For
many, a trip through Grand Canyon on
the Colorado River means fun.
For others it means adventure – testing one’s self.
Some consider it the
dream of a lifetime.
Most are forever changed.
What’s so
special about this place? Rapids. Hiking spectacular side canyons. Waterfalls.
The earth’s geologic history opening like a book. Understanding
more about the arid west and the importance of water. The change of
pace – moving at the speed of the river and the day instead of
the “rat race.” Rafts powered by oars, not motors. Campside
conversation, not email.
All of this –
and more.
To be joined in
your journey by members of the CC family makes it all the more special.
This, the fifth Colorado College river trip will be led by Mark Smith,
professor of environmental economics, and Diane Brown Benninghoff ’68,
both veteran river runners.
We’ll float
with Moki Mac Outfitters, one of the oldest and most respected (and
some say, most colorful) companies in the Canyon. The Quist family took
its first group down the Colorado in 1947 through Glen Canyon.
