Women's Soccer - NCAA Division I

Officially formed as a club program in 1975, women's soccer at Colorado College quickly earned a reputation as one of the most popular sports on campus. The team went undefeated (8-0) during its first year of existence and achieved varsity status in 1978. A rising powerhouse among the Division I elite, Colorado College women's soccer can boast 25 winning seasons in its 28 years of existence. CC's tradition of excellence in women's soccer has produced 14 All-Americans. A number of players have gone on to play professionally, and others have graduated to the collegiate coaching ranks.

Men's Ice Hockey - NCAA Division I

In 2005, the Tigers claimed a share of their eighth Western Collegiate Hockey Association championship, adding another chapter to the fabled history of a program that has spanned eight decades. Since 1994 the team has earned five regular-season league titles, 10 home-ice playoff berths in 12 years, and nine NCAA tournament bids. CC's recent string of success has included trips to the national "Frozen Four" in 1996, 1997, and again in 2005. College and community come together at the World Arena during hockey season to enjoy the spirit and excitement of Tiger Hockey.

Club Sports

Because Colorado College encourages the widest possible participation in athletics, we are committed to sponsoring and supporting club sports, in which teams compete against those from other schools or private teams from throughout the state and region.

Playing Soccer in Pukë

During his first few months as a Peace Corps worker stationed in Pukë, Albania, former CC soccer player John Cropper ’04 began playing pick-up games with the high school kids who would be his students in the fall.

“The first thing I noticed was their lack of equipment,” Cropper says. “The soccer balls they played with were plastic. Sometimes they weren’t even soccer balls, just something round.”

Cropper wrote to friends and family at home about his experiences in Pukë. A week later, CC soccer coach Horst Richardson called to ask Cropper if the soccer team could “adopt” the Albanian kids.

CC soccer playerCC soccer player “We had a box in the locker room, and whenever the team found something they thought the kids would use, they’d just drop it in the box,” said Richardson. “I can identify with these kids and I’m delighted that we were able to help in a small way.”

The generosity of the CC soccer team didn’t come as a surprise to Cropper. “The people that I met at CC are far and away the best people I’ve ever encountered,” he said. “It is no coincidence that among my friends from the class of 2004, six of us are serving in the Peace Corps.”
