Current Student Application Timeline

Financial Aid Procedures for the 2012-2013 Academic Year

ALL returning students who are currently receiving financial aid (*except students receiving only certain merit-based scholarships, athletic scholarships or tuition remission ), will need to complete the FAFSA process in the TIMELINE below when applying or re-applying for financial aid.

TIMELINE to complete the 2012-13 FAFSA

1. After January 1, 2012 but no later than May 1, 2012, complete and submit the 2012-2013 FAFSA on the web at www.FAFSA.gov. Complete 2011 Federal Tax Returns prior to completing the FAFSA. Beginning with the 2012-2013 school year, families will have the opportunit to use the IRS Data Retrievala process.  This will ensure that accurate information from 2011 taxes are reported on the FAFSA and will streamline the process for students who are selected for federal verification.  In order to use this convenient option, you will have to wait approximately two weeks after filing taxes to complete the FAFSA. However, it is important that you don't miss the May 1st priority date for filing the FAFSA.

2. Read your Student Aid Report (SAR) that you will receive after submitting the FAFSA. Make any updates and return it to the FAFSA processor. If the SAR indicates you are selected for verification, you are required to complete the “2012-13 Verification Worksheet” which you can print at http://www.coloradocollege.edu/admission/financialaid/forms/ and return to the financial aid office.  If you have chosen to not used the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, you will be required to submit a 2011 IRS tax return transcript--not a photocopy of your income tax return.  To obtain an IRS tax return transcript, go to www.IRS.gov, and click on the "Order a Return or Account Transcript" link, or call 1-800-908-9946.

If you applied previously and did not receive financial aid, OR if you are applying to receive CC grant aid for the first time, OR if you have a One-Year financial aid award, you must complete the 2012-13 PROFILE, the 2012-13 FAFSA, and submit signed 2011 tax forms and W-2 forms.

  • If you would like us to review your current financial aid award to consider any changes in family circumstances which will impact your family's ability to pay, you must submit a financial aid appeal. Please follow the appeal process instructions.

The priority date for completing the requirements to apply for financial aid is May 1. It is our goal that students who have completed the financial aid application process on time should expect their renewal award or notification of eligibility by mid-June of 2012.

* Students receiving ONLY a Trustee Scholarship, Presidential Scholarship, Leadership Scholarship, Athletic Scholarship, the Barnes Scholarship, National Merit, International Student Grant, Boettcher Scholarship or Tuition Remission do not need to complete the financial aid process for the upcoming year unless they are requesting federal loans.

Financial Aid Procedures for Returning Students who applied previously and did not receive financial aid, OR students who are applying for CC grant funds for the first time,  OR students who have a one-year financial aid award.

If you applied for financial aid previously and did not receive financial aid, OR if you are applying for CC grant funds for the first time, OR if you have a one-year financial aid award, you are required to use the following procedure to apply for financial assistance. This application process must be completed to apply for all types of financial aid at Colorado College.

To apply for financial aid, Colorado College requires two separate applications: a PROFILE application and a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Your eligibility for financial assistance will not be determined until we receive all the required documents. Please review the following requirements.

  • Complete the 2012-13 PROFILE application (our CSS school code is 4072) and submit it to the processor no later than May 1, 2012. You and your parents (if you are dependent) can apply online at www.collegeboard.org . Be sure to keep a copy for your records. If your biological or adoptive parents are no longer living in the same household, your non-custodial parent will be required to complete the Non-Custodial Parent Statement. College Board will email you instructions for completion of the online application to forward to your noncustodial parent (if you include your non-custodial parent's email on the Profile application, College Board can email these instructions directly to your non-custodial parent.) Your non-custodial parent's information will be inaccessible to you and your custodial parent.
  • Send signed copies of your and your parents' 2011 Federal Income Tax Returns (and any applicable schedules) and W2 forms by May 1, 2012 to IDOC. Upon completing the CSS Profile you will receive an IDOC cover sheet via e-mail along with the address on where to send the above forms. Go to https://IDOC.collegeboard.org for more information.
  • Complete the 2012-13 FAFSA electronically after January 1, 2012, but no later than May 1, 2012, through the secure website at www.FAFSA.gov You and your parents can sign the FAFSA electronically online if you already have a Personal Identification Number (PIN). If you or your parents do not have a PIN, instructions to apply for a PIN are on the FAFSA website. Complete your 2011 Federal Tax Return prior to completing the FAFSA, but don't miss the May 1 priority date.  Once your tax returns are completed, we recommend using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to complete your FAFSA.

There may be requests for additional or missing information. Be sure to respond to any requests as soon as possible.

Students who have completed the financial aid application process should expect notification of eligibility by mid-June of 2012. If you have questions, please contact the financial aid office.
