The
Office of First-Year and Sophomore Studies and Advising was
created in an effort to strengthen the current faculty-based
academic advising system by making available to students a
supplementary professional advisor. The director, Julie Stockenberg,
will assist and serve as a resource for students, faculty, staff
and others at Colorado College who are part of the advising
system.

Along with the Associate Dean of the College and the Office of the Registrar,
the Director will monitor student progress toward effective and timely completion
of all-college requirements. The advising program assists students in the
development of meaningful educational plans that are compatible with their
career and life goals. Even though it is the primary responsibility of the
student to work toward degree completion, the Director supports the student
by offering informed advice and referral to other departments and resources
on campus.

What Can I Do With This Major?
Block Planner
The Office of First-Year and Sophomore Studies and Advising, in conjunction
with other campus resources, will:
- Serve as a contact location for First-Year student questions and concerns
regarding their academic plans and transition to Colorado College.
- Assist students in the exploration and clarification of educational,
life and career goals.
- Work with students in the development of suitable educational plans
and in the evaluation of progress toward established goals and degree
completion.
- Discuss with students the selection of appropriate courses and other
educational experiences at Colorado College, including international
study and service-learning opportunities and major related internships.
- Interpret institutional requirements, policies, and registration procedures
as requested by students.
- Increase student awareness of campus educational resources such as
the Writing Center, Colket Student Learning Center
and other campus
and community opportunities.
- Develop and lead advising programs, workshops and retreats for faculty,
staff and students, as specific needs are determined.
- Develop, coordinate and assess First-Year and Sophomore educational,
co-curricular programs.
- Make referrals to other college support services, including Career
Services, counseling and health services, disability services, student
life, Center for Community Service and Residential Life.
