Abbott Prize

Shove chapelThe Abbott Prize for Excellence in Sociology is awarded annually at the Honors Convocation by the Sociology Faculty to one or more graduating seniors. Although the monetary award is small, the prize conveys great esteem. Faculty rely not only on the history of a student's work in the department, but also the student's active presence in the department when selecting recipients.

The Abbott Prize honors the memory of W. Lewis Abbott who was a member of the Colorado College faculty from 1920 to 1949. Professor Abbott was stimulating in his teaching, controversial in his positions, and beloved and respected by his students and colleagues.
