The Colorado College Bluegrass Ensemble is an instrumental and vocal band created to provide for students a challenging and creative environment in which to develop material with the feel and structure of Bluegrass music. The ensemble draws mainly from traditional sources including Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs, Jimmy Martin, and the Stanley Brothers. Upcoming performances for the ensemble include The Durango Bluegrass Meltdown in April. The ensemble receives academic credit and is by audition only.
There is another ensemble as well. It's a beginning bluegrass ensemble which focuses on bluegrass vocal harmony, rhythm and lead playing in an informal group setting without an audition. Consent of director is needed to participate.
