Cross Listing Courses

Criteria for Cross-Listing Courses

Faculty, programs, or departments interested in cross-listing a course with Feminist and Gender Studies should submit a course description and/or syllabus with rationale of how the proposed course specifically meets the criteria for an FGS course.

An FGS does one or more of the following

  • Incorporates feminist critiques, perspectives, or theory. Courses using traditional texts or works should put these in dialogue with feminist perspectives that problematize them.
  • Examines how gender is affected by other systems of domination (e.g., class, religion, sexuality).
  • Critically examines cultural assumptions about gender, e.g., the gendered assumptions of traditional methodologies, theories, and research of particular disciplines.
  • Explores the production of different forms of knowledge, art, performance, literature, and so on, reflecting gendered experience of race, ethnicity, class, sexual orientation, etc.
  • Equips students to identify and critically analyze forms of resistance as well as systems of domination.
  • Focuses on providing information about women, their psychology, biology, roles, experiences, history, and contributions.
