Environmental Education Certification Program
Environmental Education Certification Program (EECP)
Learn Alongside other Environmental Educators in the Rocky Mountains!
- Are you interested in becoming an environmental educator?
- Are you environmentally literate in mountain settings?
What is EECP?
The Environmental Science Department and the Education Department, in a collaborative effort, have developed the Environmental Education Certification Program that provides the student body with the opportunity to become certified as environmental educators through a separate thematic minor for environmental education.
- The EECP pilot program is 3 Linked Summer Blocks/courses (beginning summer 2013) that provide a balanced perspective of social and natural sciences blended with research and pedagogy.
- EECP is an on-campus, 24-student program achieved through on-campus course-work, as well as off-campus course-work at the Catamount Institute at the Beidleman Environmental Center.
- Participants will achieve the competencies required by the Colorado Association for Environmental Education (CAEE) guidelines for Environmental Education Certification plus the opportunity to earn a certificate in environmental education through CAEE. EECP prepares students to create successful portfolios for CAEE certification.
- EECP will allow participants ample time to get a basis in educational foundations as well as an understanding of the Colorado environment before spending the last block teaching local youth up at the Catamount Center.*
- EECP is a mountain region, collaborative, interdisciplinary adventure in learning!
*Utilizing the Catamount Institute will be crucial in the environmental education minor as it will be the place CC students utilize their lesson plans with various age levels.
Estimated program fee: $250 (residence at CC or nearby) plus tuition
Estimated program cost: $2,800/course, plus tuition (includes all room and board and field trip expenses)
