New York Trip
Each year during senior seminar in October the senior art majors travel to New York.
The students, together with several faculty members from the art department, as well as other scholars, artists and guests spend the week visiting museums and galleries showing contemporary art. The itinerary includes not only large group visits to major museums, but also opportunities to visit artists' studios, galleries and other places of interest in small groups.
There is also time for students to pursue their own interests. The experience of seeing works of art together at first hand complements our on-campus courses. The art we study together often becomes the subject of art history students' senior theses as well as a source of stimulation and inspiration for art studio projects. It also offers our students a common experience of art to discuss throughout the year that ties in with our program of speakers and visiting artists. In addition meetings with alumni with careers in the arts gives students insights about graduate work and careers. Several endowed funds pay students' travel expenses and provide financial aid.
The annual Colorado College Art Department trip to New York will take place from October 17 to 24, 2012. Professors Rebecca Tucker and Dan Raffin will lead the trip. Other Art faculty on the trip will be Tamara Bentley, Ruth Kolarik, Scott Johnson, Gale Murray, Carl Reed, Bogdan Swider and Rebecca Tucker. Other guests included Printmaker Jean Gumpper, Curator of the Cornerstone Idea Space Jessica Hunter-Larsen and Director of Arts and Crafts Jeanne Steiner.
