Colorado College celebrated its 118th commencement on May 17, under a cloudless sky on Armstrong quad.  U.S. Secretary of Energy Bill Richardson addressed the Class of 1999.  See a full transcript of his remarks.

President Kathryn Mohrman conferred degrees upon 547 excited graduates in the college's traditional Z-A order. She told the audience, "I have the vision and the belief that in the future CC will not only be the best place in the state of Colorado for an undergraduate education, not only the best liberal arts college in our time zone, but an institution nationally recognized as one of the finest liberal arts colleges in the country -- broadly recognized, even more than today, for its unique combination of intense undergraduate learning on the one hand, blended with an emphasis on creativity and individuality."

Senior speaker Michael Johnson then described the true measure of success to his classmates as the ability to "look in the mirror and believe you’ve tried your hardest to be an honest, decent person."  Read about some outstanding graduates in a Gazette article.
