The Basics...
Games for the "Open" league are played at the North Monument Valley Field while all "Co-ed" games are played on the Armstrong Graduation Quad. League play is organized in accordance with a round robin format scheduling each team to play in an equal number of competitions. Final season rankings will be determined by 1) winning percentage, 2) head to head play, 3) number of forfeits, and/or 4) a playoff game. The top teams in each league will advance to a single elimination tournament to determine league champions. All members of the winning team will receive IM Champion t-shirts.
General organizational rules include the following: Each games will last: 1) one hour, 2) seven innings, 3) 10-run mercy rule after five innings, or 4) 15-run mercy rule after three innings. No mercy rule will be applied to the championship games.
General playing rules include the following: The ball must be pitched underhand, and must arch at least six feet but no more than 12 feet in height from the ground. A foul on a batter's third strike is an out. The infield fly rule is in effect. On a close play, the runner must slide. All Softball rules may be found in the IM Rules folder.
Co-ed league pitching: the team at bat must provide their own pitcher each inning. Each batter is allowed only 3 pitches -- no walks will be permitted.
Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated. The following behaviors will result in a warning and the possibility of a game ejection and subsequent expulsion: cursing at the officials, supervisors, or opposing players; insulting the officials, supervisors, or opposing players. Participating in a fight will result in an automatic ejection. Participants ejected from a game are prohibited in playing in their next scheduled TWO games.
ZERO ALCOHOL TOLERANCE. Any alcohol present will result in automatic disqualification from intramural softball.
