Intramural Athletics: Sports Rules
Kickball Tournament
1. Team play consists of 9 vs. 9. A team may start and continue to play with eight players. Less than eight players will merit the assessment of a forfeit. A forfeit will be called on any team or teams who do not present with at least 8 players , 10 minutes after official game time.
2. All co-ed teams must have at least two members of the under-represented sex on the field at all times.
3. A person can play for only one team. Jumping leagues or teams is allowed.
4. Each game will last: 1) one hour, 2) seven innings, or 3) through a 10-run
differential at the end of 5 innings ("mercy rule").
5.The ball must be pitched underhand, and must roll across the plate -- bouncing pitches are not allowed.
6. Each kicker will be pitched only three pitches – walks are not permitted and a foul on the kickers third strike will be called an out.
7. An out will be called for any forced play (same as softball), anytime the ball hits the runner at or below the shoulder either off an offensive kick or a throw by a defensive player, or any time a fielder catches a fly ball.
8. On a close play, the runner MUST SLIDE. It will be at the umpire's discretion to determine whether the play was close enough to require a slide or not.
9. At Armstrong Graduation Quad: if the kickball goes past the gravel trail and it hits a tree branch, it is considered fair play. If it hits a tree branch inside the gravel trail, it is considered a ground-rule double.
10. ONLY in the case of EXTREME inclement weather will the decision to cancel games be made by the Director of Intramurals. The designated captain will be contacted at 3:00 pm that day if a cancellation occurs, otherwise, all games will continue according to schedule.
11. NO METAL CLEATS OR SPIKES ARE ALLOWED -- NO EXCEPTIONS.
12. Due to the tournament structure, re-scheduling will not be permitted. Only in the case of severe inclement weather will games be rescheduled.
13. Anytime the ball contacts the kicker’s foot and is caught by the defense without it touching the ground, the batter is out – regardless of the peak height of the kicked ball.
