Intramural Athletics: Sports Rules
Indoor Soccer League
Rules of the Game
1. The playing field for each team consists of four players with NO goalkeeper.
2. The game consists of two 20-minute running halves with a five-minute half time. If there is a tie after the completion of regulation play during league play, there will be a 5 minute sudden-death overtime if time permits. During playoffs, there will be one 10-minute overtime, followed by one 5-minute sudden-death overtime if necessary.
3. If a team fails to report for the scheduled contest within 10 minutes after the scheduled time for the game, a forfeit will be declared for the absent team. If both teams fail to arrive on time, both will be charged with a forfeit. To obtain a contest victory by forfeit, enough players must be present to constitute a full playing field.
4. All co-ed teams must have two members of the under-represented sex on the
turf at all times. Failure to observe this guideline will result in a forfeit
by the offending team.
5. A 10-point mercy rule may be called at the official's discretion and/or teams
consent.
Rules: All regular soccer rules apply except for the following:
1 . No wild or powered shots are allowed (referee’s discretion). Violations
of this rule will result in a turnover with play restarted with an indirect
kick. A two-minute penalty may be assessed for repeated offenses, with the offending
team playing short for the duration of the penalty.
2 . A team can only score in the attacking half of the turf.
3 . No rough play or unsportsmanlike conduct will be tolerated. If a two-minute
penalty is assessed, the team must play short for the full penalty period.
4 . Free substitutions are allowed throughout the game.
5. There is NO offsides rule.
6 . A ball may NOT be played off the ceiling net. A net ball will result in
a turnover with play restarted by an indirect kick.
7 . NO GOALTENDING. Failure to observe this will result in a two-minute penalty.
8 . No player may enter the semi-circle goal area for more than 2 seconds. Violations
will result in a turnover with play restarted with an indirect kick.
9 . NO SLIDING. A warning will be issued after the first violation and an ejection
penalty will follow for any subsequent sliding violations. The offending team
will play short for the remainder of the game.
