Rules of the Game
1. The serve may be made anywhere behind the end line within the boundaries of the sidelines. If any part of the server’s foot touches the line while attempting a serve, a “foot fault” will be called and one point will be awarded to the opposing team.
2. Serving faults include: a) the ball touching the ceiling, and/or b) the
server crossing the end line before the ball is served.
NOTE: In accordance with new NCAA and International Rules, the ball will be
allowed to touch the net on a serve and remain in play.
3. Playing the ball: a) maximum of three team contacts, b) the ball may be hit with any part of the body, c) a back row player, returning the ball to the opponent's side while in front of the 10ft. line, may not leave the ground in order to contact the ball, and d) a block is not considered one of the three team contacts.
4. Crossing the centerline is considered a foot fault. If some part of the foot remains on or above the centerline and does not interfere with play of an opponent, it is not a fault.
5. Also in accordance with new NCAA and International Rules, matches will be determined by the winner in a best of three game series. Rally scoring to 25 points will determine the winner of the first two games; the third game will be rally to 15 points.
6. Substitutions must be made for the same position and in the course of rotation.
7. Lines on the court are considered in-play.
8. Contact by any part of the body with the net except the hair or clothing is a fault when the ball is in play.
9. Additional rules: no blocking/hitting the serve from the opponent (players may not attack the ball), the first contact by the offense must be a pass, all passes must be made with closed fists unless an overhead setting action is used (open palm, underhand passing is prohibited), a coin toss will determine the serve, there will be a 10 minute forfeit rule in effect for all games, and co-ed teams must have two members of the opposite sex on the court at all times.
10. Rotation: The rotation of players occurs in a clockwise manner with bench players entering in the front left position and exiting the back left position.
11. One timeout per game will be granted to each team.
