Southwest High School Scholars

What is it?
The Southwest High School Scholars Program is an opportunity for a limited number of exceptionally talented and highly motivated rising high school seniors from the Southwest (Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas) to take a regular undergraduate Summer Session course at Colorado College. The program is designed to demonstrate the value of a liberal arts education and to help students prepare for college work.

If you are from the American Southwest and want to experience an actual college class for credit, you might want to investigate this opportunity at Colorado College, a private, highly selective, liberal arts and sciences college at the base of Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs, Colorado. the mission of the college is to challenge students, one course at a time, to develop those habits of intellect and imagination that will prepare them for learning and leadership throughout their lives.

In addition to full participation in the course of their selection, Southwest high school scholars are offered special residential life and college preparatory programming. The pre-college programming will consist of special sessions on the college admission process, college application essay writing, and career opportunities for students after college, and will take about 8 hours during the block. Moreover, students will be offered excursions around the Colorado Springs vicinity and other extra-curricular opportunities.
