Topics: Japanese Language and Culture (in Japan)
May 20 - June 9
1 CC unit (4 semester hours). 1 unit of humanities credit.

This course will take place in Japan where students will be introduced to Japanese culture and language as they travel to Hiroshima, Kyoto, Aichi, Fujiyoshida, and Tokyo. Most accommodations will be homestay where students will stay in homes of Japanese families who are not fluent in English. Visits to colleges, museums, temples, shrines, theme parks, and factories are included. Students will keep a diary recording all visits and daily activities. A comprehensive paper on a selected topic will be completed and turned in at the end of the stay in Japan.

Program Fee (in addition to tuition): $1,800 includes lodging, most meals, course-related activities, and transportation in Japan. Does not include airfare. A non-refundable $500 deposit is due upon enrollment for the course. Colorado College students may apply for Intercultural Funds.
Prerequisites: Consent of instructor, JA 101 or any course on Japan (e-mail pmaruyama@earthlink.net). Enrollment is limited to 10 students.
