Application Fee
All applicants must submit a non-refundable $50 application fee with the completed Summer Session application. This fee is waived if you have previously registered for courses at Colorado College and have a Colorado College ID number. Applications are processed as soon as Summer Session receives all required application materials (application, application fee, and course deposit - you will pay for your program fees and tuition at the time of acceptance or registration). Course enrollment is processed once course depoists are received. It is advisable to pay both the application fee and course deposit at one time to expedite the process of enrollment in the desired course. We are unable to process any deposits and application fees that are on the same check or in the same credit card transaction.

Course Deposits
The following course deposits are required for summer courses:

$25 for .25 units
$50 for .50 units
$100 for each 1.00 to 2.00 unit course

1 Colorado College unit is equal to 4 semester hours

In order to hold a place in a Summer Session course, you will need to pay the course deposit at least one week prior to the course beginning. This deposit goes to your tuition fee. Course deposits are non-transferable except in the case of a course being cancelled. If you withdraw from the course, the deposit from that class will be forfeited. Because many courses do fill up, and a few classes have been cancelled for low enrollment, students are encouraged to pre-register for courses as soon as possible to ensure enrollment in the desired class.

Program Fees
In addition to tuition,, some courses require supplementary fees called "program fees" which cover additional costs such as travel, food lodging, and other expenses. These extra program costs are listed with the course description (you can view the graduate course descriptions here). Program fees are charged and due at the same time as tuition for the course. Students who enroll in a course with a program fee and then drop the course are still responsible for non-recoverable portions of the program fee.

Tuition
Summer Session tuition is nearly half the regular-year cost of tuition at Colorado College. Our tuition for summer 2009 is $2,545 per block. If you are a practicing K-12 teacher you will also get an additional reduced tuition (1/2 off). The only course you will take in which we cannot offer the reduced rate is the final master's research paper course (ED552). Tuition covers most services at Colorado College, including the use of the library, the athletic center, computer labs, and free computer accounts. Tuition does not cover the program fees attached to certain courses. You are expected to pay the tuition balance at the time of registration unless other arrangements have been made in advance with our student accounts office. If you apply for the no-interest loan in advance there is no tuition balance at registration.

Course Cancellations
Courses that do not meet our minimum enrollment requirement three weeks prior to the start of the course will be cancelled. When a course is cancelled, we will use the available contact information to notify any students who are enrolled. Emergencies (such as the professor's health) may also result in unanticipated course cancellations. Students enrolled in a cancelled course may transfer their course deposit (or paid tuition) to another course or receive a course deposit (tuition) refund. Please note that only a few courses are cancelled each summer.

Eligibility for Reduced Rate
All candidates must provide proof of employment as a teacher in a K-12 school in order to be eligible for the reduced tuition rate at Colorado College. (The exception is for those who apply for a loan.) We ask that candidates provide a copy of their contract, or signature from the superintendent's office or principal, or head of school. We must have proof of employment in a school each summer. Many schools do not provide a written renewal contract. In this case, candidates may use our proof of teaching contract. This form may be signed by a school official verifying proof of a contract. Click here to download the proof of teaching contract form.

No-Interest Loans and Financial Aid
The Summer Programs office offers all candidates in our program a special no-interest eight-month loan which provides for payment of tuition in installments over the following school year, from October to May. Teachers who would like to apply for this loan should complete and sign the loan application and promissory note, you can request a form from the Summer Programs office, or download a PDF of the form by clicking here. You will also need to complete a Proof of Teaching Contract form, which can also be found by requesting it from the Summer Programs office, or by download in the PDF by clicking here. A $40 processing fee is charged for the loan each year, but no interest is accrued. Applications must include a signature by the school district superintendent verifying employment for the following year. This signature will also automatically qualify candidates for the reduced tuition rate. Teachers who wish to apply for federal grants or loans must do so through the office of financial aid at Colorado College, located in Cutler Hall. To set up an appointment, or to inquire about eligibility, call 719.389.6150.

Financial Consequences of Summer Session Course Changes
If a student withdraws from a course prior to one week before it begins, by formally notifying the registrar's office, tuition will be refunded (if already paid) or not charged for that course; however, the deposit will not be refunded. A student who withdraws later, but on or before the third day of the course's block, will be refunded 70 percent of tuition already charged. After the third day of the block, full tuition is charged. Within the period of one week before the course starts and the third day of its block, students may exchange registration for other courses that carry the same total unit values and are scheduled during the same block with no tuition penalty other than forfeiting any course deposits previously submitted for the dropped course. If a change in courses during this period results in enrollment for fewer units, students will be charged 30 percent of the tuition costs for the number of units dropped and not replaced.
