Thomas Merton: Guide for a Seeker's Soul
Saturday, June 13th, 9am - noon
Armstrong Hall #231
Cost: $45
The stresses and strains of life in our fast-paced culture cause many of us to lose touch with our soul: that is, with an identity defined not just by what we do, but who we are as spiritual beings. To find our way to this "deep self" we need a guide, which is a role that Thomas Merton has played in the lives of thousands.
Despite living in a cloistered monastery, Merton became one of the most controversial (he was, by turns, a playboy, social critic, and teacher of Eastern thought) inspirational, and influential figures of our time. Through an examination of his life and teachings, students will learn to apply Merton's insights to their own spiritual journeys.
Please prepare for the class by reading "Original Blessing" by William A. Shannon.
