The Redemptrix Archetype: The Second Coming
Saturday, July 11th, 9am - noon
Armstrong Hall #231
Cost: $55 (includes lunch)

This seminar explores the feminine archetype of the "redemptrix" and its relationship with the Christian concept of the Second Coming. The discussion will be based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale "Twelve Brothers" and the Nordic fairy tale "Twelve Swans." Both fairy tales relate to how the younger sister redeems her brothers from their enchantment into birds (into ravens in "Twelve Brothers" and into swans in "Twelve Swans"). Attention is given to the psychological meaning of the various symbols in the fairy tales. In particular, attention will be given to how the fairy tales outline the feminine way of individuation. Participants should read both fairy tales and bring to class copies of the fairy tales.
