ACTIVE - An initiated member of a sorority or fraternity.

ALUMNUS/ALUMNA ("Alum") - A member of a Greek organization who has graduated from college.

BID - An invitation to join a fraternity or sorority.

CHAPTER - The local group of a national organization.

FRATERNITY - The Greek-letter chapters for men on the Colorado College campus. Some women's sororoities are called fraternity.

GREEKS - Students affiliated with Greek-letter fraternities and sororities.

INITIATION - A formal ceremony by which new members become initiated members.

INTERFRATERNITY COUNCIL (IFC) - The governing body of the fraternities.

LEGACY - A student whose parent, grandparent, or brother/sister is a member of a particular fraternity or sorority.

NEW MEMBER - A man/Woman after accepting a bid an before initiation.

PANHELLENIC COUNCIL (Panhel) - The governing body of the sororities.

PHILANTHROPY - Comunity Service and fund raising.

POTENTIAL NEW MEMBER - A student who is going through Recruitment before and during these events are taking place.

RECRUITMENT - A series of events offering members and potential members the opportunity to get to know wach other. These events may lead to a bid from the sorority/fraternity.

RECRUITMENT COUNSELOR - A woman disaffiliated from her chapter to better represent the Greek Community as a whole and to assist Potential New Members going through the process of Recruitment.

SORORITY - The Gree-letter chapters for women on the Colorado College campus.
