We're delighted that your organization is interested in applying for Chartered Status with the SGA! Please complete and return the following application by Wednesday, October 21, 2009 to either marie.blanc@coloradocollege.edu or the Worner Desk. The SGA Constitution Committee will review your application and notify you of your organization's status by the second week of Block 3.
When filling out the following application, please keep in mind that the overall purpose of SGA and its chartering and recognition process is to further the enriching and educational goals of the college.
The benefits of attaining Charted Status with the SGA are numerous. A SGA chartered organization is entitled to all privileges granted to Recognized organizations plus:
• Eligibility to use “Colorado College” in its name
• Eligibility to apply for an operational budget
• Eligibility to solicit funds and charge fees at their events in accordance with college policy
• Eligibility to use the college’s Central Services
Be advised that applying for Chartered Status (what you are doing right now) and applying for a budget are two separate processes. Being granted Chartered Status does not entitle any organization to an operational budget.
With these privileges, a Chartered organization has several responsibilities including:
• It must hold Recognized Status with the SGA for at least one academic year
• Each academic year, it must submit a Chartered Status application
• It must maintain records of all financial transactions and participate in any financial audits requested by the Financial Vice-President and the Student Finance Committee
• It must fulfill some sort of enriching or educational role for the campus that is not already being accomplished by another Chartered Student Organization
• It must have an active faculty member or administrator as an advisorAll of these responsibilities are covered in the application, so please answer the questions thoughtfully and completely. This application is your way of telling SGA about your organization, so please take it seriously. Remember that an incomplete or inadequate application may be grounds for rejection.
If a copy of your organization’s constitution or bylaws is not included, then the organization will not be chartered or re-chartered. If you would like help creating or revising your organizations’ constitution and bylaws, we would be happy to help. Admittedly this is not the most enjoyable exercise you will ever do, but it is extremely important and is not as painful as you may think. We have templates and sample constitutions and bylaws we would be happy to provide for you.
If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact us at any time. We are happy to assist with any aspect of your application.
Thank you for your interest,
