The Roaring 20’s Dinner Dance- Spring 2008

The Colorado College Ballroom Dance Club began in the fall of 2007 as a collaboration between Luke Parkhurst (c/o 2011) and two professors, John Riker and Marcia Dobson. The club’s first official meeting was only attended by three people.  However, following a publicity campaign, the next meeting saw a turn-out of over 30 people, including students, faculty, and staff.  Throughout the fall and spring semesters of that year, the club met weekly, with instruction provided by John and his wife Marcia.  In the spring, the club held two events: a lecture by John and Marcia on “The Higher Erotics of Ballroom Dancing” (followed by a dance), and “The Roaring 20’s Dinner Dance” featuring the Springs Band.

The club is currently in its second year, which has brought some exciting new developments.  It has partnered with students at UCCS and Pikes Peak Community College to form a swing battle team.  We are now hosting Monday night swing dancing in partnership with UCCS. 16 members of the club recently attended a dinner dance in Pueblo.  And with a larger base of committed members we hope to soon have a professional instructor!
