Italian 201 and plan to continue their study of Italian. A systematic review of
grammar with supervised conversation practice. 1/4 unit – Department.

Theater Workshop. Participation
in performance and production of a Italian-language play, presented in Italian.

305–Oral
Practice and Composition. Advanced
composition and conversation practice through the study of Italian literary and
cultural texts. Limited to 15 students. Prerequisite:
201 or equivalent. (Offered alternate years, not offered 1999–2000.) 1 unit

306–Introduction
to Literary Analysis. Continues
the acquisition of the Italian language and trains students in the most
important methods of critical analysis through readings in different genres. Prerequisite:
Italian 201 or equivalent. 1 unit – S. Bizzarro.
307–Readings
in Italian Civilization. A
cultural approach using both school texts and original works by important
authors in the fields of politics, art, philosophy and history. Although
coverage of all Italian civilization will not be attempted, most important
aspects will be discussed. 1 unit – S. Bizzarro.
309–Independent
Readings in Italian Literature. Textual
analysis of important literary works, including at least six authors, two genres
and three historical periods. Some authors to be studied are: Dante, Pulci,
Leonardo, Goldoni, Manzone, Svevo, Gozzano, Pirandello and Calvino. 1 unit –
S. Bizzarro.
