COLORADO COLLEGE PUBLIC INTEREST FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

Chloe BensonChloe Benson ‘09
Colorado Consumer Health Initiative
Yearlong Fellow

Why did you want to become a PIFP Fellow?

I wanted to be a PIFP Fellow because this is such a unique opportunity to do significant work with amazing nonprofit organizations in Colorado. Many other entry level positions within nonprofits would not be provided with all the resources and the tools that the PIFP position allows for (through workshops with CC and such). We are given more attention than many other entry level jobs provide, which allows us to be more useful and efficient within our organizations. It’s a great gap year experience to test out the nonprofit waters and find one’s own niche within such a varied field.

Please give a brief description of your job/role in your host organization:

I am the Healthcare Advocate of our organization. I work closely with our Field and Membership Director. We are currently working on statewide expansion of our organization. My responsibilities also include compiling our bi-weekly newsletter. I manage our healthcare story bank and field consumer phone calls. One of my main tasks is organizing Healthcare Day of Action, which occurs annually in March. I am also the point person for distribution and trainings on our publication, Connecting Care and Health in Colorado: A Guide to Services for the Uninsured.

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned about your host organization so far?

Learning about the staff of CCHI has been the most interesting! We have a phenomenal group of diverse people who all bring amazing and different perspectives into all of our work.

What activities do you enjoy?

I enjoy running, LGBTQ advocacy, nutrition, and card games.

What is something most people would be surprised to know about you?

I have five siblings.
