Materials which a professor has identified as being important to his/her course. They may include supplemental information such as tests or quiz files, homework, class notes, solution sets, or textbooks. Course reserves may also include required readings.
Items placed on reserve for classes are available at the Circulation Desk.
Only CC students may check out reserves.
Reserve items may be searched on the TIGER catalog by faculty name and by course name. See the Course Reserves link on the library home page.
Students may check out one reserve item at a time. Reserve items check out for 2 hours and must remain in the library. Exceptions to this policy must be made by the professor. Your CC gold card will be held at the Circulation Desk until the item is returned. A course reserve item may be checked out overnight one hour before the library closes. Overnight loans are due when the library opens the next morning. Reserve videos do not have an overnight checkout. Reserve videos must be watched in the library.
Reserve materials must be returned to the Circulation Desk.
You are responsible for the timely return of all materials, whether or not you receive any reminder or overdue notices from the library. The library may notify your professor of any abuses of reserve policies.
The library reserve service is generally considered to be an extension of the classroom and is therefore governed by the same fair use guidelines under Section 107 of the Copyright Law. For a complete statement of the Colorado College copyright policy, please refer to pages E18-E23 of the Faculty Manual. The following guidelines are intended to help faculty and the library determine what constitutes fair use for library reserves. Tutt Library also adheres to the American Library Association Interlibrary Loan Code in setting reserves policy. Faculty who are interested in learning more about Copyright
and Fair Use may want to consult an excellent Web site maintained by Georgia
Harper for the University of Texas system at http://www.utsystem.edu/ogc/intellectualproperty/
What
May Not Be Placed on Reserve
Electronic
Reserves - Copyright Policy and Tutt Library Procedures
Copyright The library applies the same basic fair use guidelines to material placed on electronic reserves as for its traditional print reserves service. The library will not scan entire books for electronic reserves, or load videos or other media as part of its electronic reserves service. Access will be limited to students enrolled in the class and administrative staff as needed and will be terminated at the end of the block. Publisher permission must be obtained for course materials used more than one block and it must be requested each time material is used. The library will seek permissions. If permission is denied by the copyright holder, the material will be removed immediately from the reserve system. Library Procedures Allow five working days lead time for staff to process materials for electronic reserves. It takes more time to process electronic reserves than print reserves. Supply a clean, sharp 8.5 x 11 photocopy of the material. Photocopies should not be stapled, underlined or highlighted. Page limit is 25 pages per document. We are limited by file size on the system AND long documents take too long for students to download and print. Longer book chapters or other materials should be placed on print reserve or provided to students through the bookstore's CoursePak service.
