Faculty, programs, or departments interested in cross-listing a course with Feminist and Gender Studies should submit a course description (or syllabus if available) with rationale of how the proposed course specifically addresses the following criteria:
A Feminist and Gender Studies course incorporates feminist critiques, perspectives, or theory. Courses using traditional texts or works should put these in dialogue with feminist perspectives that problematize them.
A Feminist and Gender Studies course examines how gender is affected by other systems of domination (e.g., class, religion, sexuality).
A Feminist and Gender Studies course does one or more of the following:
Critically examines cultural assumptions about gender, e.g., the gendered assumptions of traditional methodologies, theories, and research of particular disciplines.
Explores the production of different forms of knowledge, art, performance, literature, and so on, reflecting gendered experience of race, ethnicity, class, sexual orientation, etc.
Equips students to identify and critically analyze forms of resistance as well as systems of domination.
Focuses on providing information about women, their psychology, biology, roles, experiences, history, and contributions.
If you have questions about this process or these criteria, Feminist and Gender Studies core faculty are available to assist you.
