Investigates the intergenerational issues of fairness, compassion and discipline that permeate the debate in the U.S. and other industrial countries about discretionary vs. mandatory entitlement expenditures and their impact on national debt that may become a burden on future generations. Reviews the expectations people of various ages have about the nature of their economy and what government will do for them vs. what they must do for themselves. Explores the political economy of the government budget/national debt debate from the perspective of how retirees, baby boomers, and youth view the problem and its possible solutions. Intended for non-majors. No credit if taken after 150, 151, 152 or 160 and may not be counted towards either the economics or political economy majors.
