Sunday Oct. 14

·         2 PM –Depart CS for Silverthorne; meet at west door to Palmer Hall

·         5:30 PM Arrive in Silverthorne, move in to Alpen Hutte Lodge (housing for all nights); dorm style, (emergency only phone contact: 970-468-6336; 2 pay phones in lobby for ordinary calls, messages taken from these: 970-468-7885, 7886)

·         Dinner

Monday Oct. 15

·         8:45 AM meet at Dillon Ranger District Office, meet Jamie Connell, Dillon District Ranger of WRNF and other staff; initial briefing and then day of field visits to key examples “on the ground” of issues contained in WRNF Revised Plan controversy and affecting the following FS Categories of land use:

Category 1 – wilderness

Category 2 – RNA’s, minimal use areas

Category 3 – motorized rec

Category 4 – dispersed rec, scenic areas

Category 5 – wildlife habitats, forest products

Category 7 – urban/wildland intermix

Category 8 – developed rec sites & utility corridors

Tuesday Oct. 16

·         8 AM depart Silverthorne for Breckenridge

·         9 AM thru 2:00 PM, mee with:

·         John Gitchell, Environ. Manager for Vail Resorts re: environmental philosophy and Breckenridge programs

·         Scott Yule, Facilities, Breckenridge Ski Resort

·         Lasa Annaheim, Dir. Of Finance, Vail Resorts Develop. Co.

·         Rick Sramek, Director of Operations, Breckenridge Ski Resort

·         Jeff Zimmerman, Mountain Planning, Breckenridge Resort

·         Jim Felton, Communiction Dir. Breckenridge Resort

·         2:30 PM meet with Mary Hart, Breckenridge Town Planning Dept. in Town Hall council chambers to discuss Town perspective on transport issues related to Peak 7 & 8 expansion, the gondola, possible relocation of highway onto a bypass.  Walking tour of affected areas.

·          6 PM dinner

·         7-9 PM Meeting with Jeff Berman, Ex. Dir., Colorado Wild – environmental group active in issues of mountain growth.  Presentation and discussion with Jeff on WRNF Plan, ski area expansion, wilderness, and effort to “grade” ski areas on their “green” practices; meeting in Blue River Conf. Room, N. Branch Library in Silverthorne

Wednesday Oct. 17

·         7:30 AM depart Silverthorne for Yampa Valley

·         9:00 AM Walden, CO; tour Levis Land Co. Ranch (David Pilz family ranch), discuss ranching as a viable economic activity, options for land conservation, meet with local ranchers and experts

·         Noon: lunch – at Levis Land Company Ranch

·         1:30 PM Depart for Carpenter Ranch west of Steamboat Springs

·         3:00 P.M. Arrive The Nature Conservancy’s Carpenter Ranch for briefing on TNC general goals/tools and history of Carpenter Ranch, tour of working ranch and preservation areas

·         5:00 PM drive back to Silverthorne

·         7 PM dinner

Thursday Oct. 18

·         9 AM meet up with Gordon Ferris, Summit Co. Housing Authority official; tour Silverthorne area Mobile Home facility and Catholic Dioceses housing complex

·         10 AM depart Silverthorne for Breckenridge

·         10:30 AM tour Wellington Neighborhood, David O’Neil

·         10:45 AM tour Breckenridge Housing Authority project under construction

·         11:15 AM Vail Assoc. Worker Housing tour, Scott Saunders, Corporate Dir. Employee Housing for VA

·         Noon – 1 PM Talk with Peter Grosshuesch, Dir. Of Planning for Town of Breckenridge to discuss Town perspectives on VA, Peak 7 & 8 expansion impacts, etc. – perhaps over lunch on Riverwalk; meet Peter at Town Hall in Breckenridge, 150 Ski Hill Road.

·         1 PM depart Breckenridge for Silverthorne

·         1:45 PM in Silverthorne meet with Mark Truckey, Summit Co. Long Range Planning Manager (meet in County Commons bldg, Frisco),: initial briefing on  Master Plan for Lower Blue river Basin

·         2:15 PM tour selected sites from Silverthorne towards Kremmling along Lower Blue

·         5 PM return to Silverthorne

·         6:30 PM dinner

·         7 - 9 PM Student teams of Ecological Economics Consultants give Briefings on assigned Colorado Mt. Growth Dilemmas; Blue River Room, N. Branch Library in Silverthorne. NOTE: CC parents and alums in the region invited to be an audience for these Briefings.

Friday Oct. 19

·         10 AM to Noon: Panel of regional and environmental groups sharing perspectives on Colorado Mt. Growth issues in the Summit Co. area (meeting in Blue River Conf. Room, N. Branch Library in Silverthorne: including:

·          Silverthorne Area Neighborhoods for Responsible Growth (Howard Hallman)

·         Friends of Eagle’s Nest Wilderness (Mr. Currie Craven)

·         Summit Foundation rep talking about social services needs and programs (Gini Bradley, Board member of foundation)

·         Early afternoon: depart Silverthorne for Colorado Springs

·         Late afternoon: arrival back in Colorado Springs
