Teams of students will be formed early in the course for the purpose of working together to research, read, discuss and report to the entire class on parts of the field trip. These "group presentations" will be graded by the instructor.
It is important that each group find ways to include each and every member of their group in the work and presentation. This will be an important part of the grade assigned to each group.
Each team will receive a group grade that reflects the cooperation, enthusiasm, innovation, and achievement of the entire group. That team grade will become part of each team member’s final grade.
An important part of each Team’s presentation will be a short written "briefing paper" of no more than 2 pages. This handout should organize the issues related to the topic involved in the field visit. It should summarize positions and information. It should be a handy guide for other members of the class to use as the actual field visit occurs. Each team is responsible for planning ahead so as to have a copy for each student in the class, to be passed out at the start of the team presentation.
