This course lets us

(1) the move beyond recording events or phenomena in chronological order (king lists, chronicles, annals) into some kind of 

 

ethnographic, 

mirroring, 

scientific, 

rhetorical, 

prophetic, 

moralizing, or 

apocalyptic discourse about people, peoples and events; and

(2) the move into a kind of environment called "history", which may or may not take place before the 19th century and which may already be obsolete.
