This course lets us
read (analytically) some ancient texts that help
|
(1) the move beyond recording events or phenomena in chronological order (king lists, chronicles, annals) into some kind of |
|
|
|
ethnographic, mirroring, scientific, rhetorical, prophetic, moralizing, or apocalyptic discourse about people, peoples and events; and |
|
(2) the move into a kind of environment called "history", which may or may not take place before the 19th century and which may already be obsolete. |
|
It lets us
