Last summer, local educators had the privilege to spend 2 days in an intensive workshop with International Service-Learning Consultant, Cathryn Berger Kaye.  The response from teachers who participated was overwhelming, with responses such as “I learned more in the past 2 days than in the past 20 years” and “This is the first time that I truly get it… service-learning is the way to teach!”

With such positive feedback, it wasn’t a difficult decision to ask Cathy to return to Colorado Springs for an encore training… she will be back this summer!  Please save the dates of July 22nd & 23rd, 2008 to take part in this fantastic training opportunity.

Whether this is your first service-learning workshop, or your tenth, you will walk away with a new in-depth understanding of and applications for service-learning.  She will be building on the foundations set last summer, including; overview of the service-learning process, making preparation time count, what youth voice really means and what it looks like, building skills that enable students to be successful, reflection, literature connections and how to influence other teachers to join the service-learning team.  All teachers are welcome!

Registration for the 2-day workshop starts at $200.  Teachers wishing to obtain graduate credit (from Colorado College) will pay a registration fee of $303 (total, that includes the initial $200).  Any teacher also wishing for credit from District 11 will pay accordingly.  Mark your calendars to experience the enthusiasm and wealth of knowledge that Cathy brings to every workshop she gives!

To register for the workshop (without Colorado College or D11 credit), please complete the following steps:

• Fill out the Service-Learning Colorado Springs registration form
• Send the registration and a $200 check made out to District 11 to the address listed on the form

To register for the workshop with 1.0 in-service D11 credit, please complete the following steps:

• Fill out the Service-Learning Colorado Springs registration form
• Send the registration and a $200 check made out to District 11 to the address listed on the form
• Bring a check the day of the training made out to School District 11 for $50

To register for the workshop with .25 Colorado College graduate credit, please complete the following steps:

• Fill out the Service-Learning Colorado Springs registration form
• Send the registration and a $303 check made out to Colorado College to the address listed on the form
• Submit a proof of a Teaching Contract for 2008-2009 (form can be found at http://www.coloradocollege.edu/SummerPrograms/MAT/) 
• If you have never taken a course at CC before, complete the Summer 2008 application by applying online or downloading the pdf (application can be found at http://www.coloradocollege.edu/summerprograms/MAT/GradApplication.asp)
• If you have taken a class at CC (MAT or any course that would have you in the CC system) then instead complete the Course Pre-Registration form which is found at the very top of Graduate/MAT application page (http://www.coloradocollege.edu/summerprograms/MAT/GradApplication.asp)
